Joshua Garner, deputy director of communications, is a 12-year veteran of news media and communications. As a former reporter and news editor, Joshua has worked for The Washington Post Co., The New York Times Co., Washington Informer, Washington Business Journal, and AOL where he reported on regional politics, race, education, and infrastructure.
Joshua has created and implemented strategic communications plans for several organizations and their conferences including the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA), the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) and Men’s Health Network. In 2018, Joshua led media outreach and strategy for the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., a gathering of the nation’s top Latinx leaders of faith that included a keynote address by Nancy Pelosi.
As a digital communications professional, Joshua led innovative digital media campaigns, and was part of a digital media coalition organized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services aimed at increasing awareness and participation in the Affordable Care Act.
