Letter To Pittsburgh Public School Board Reconsidering School Closure Vote

On February 20, 2026, Advancement Project sent a letter to Pittsburgh Public Schools Solicitor Ira Weiss urging him to communicate to the Pittsburgh Public School Board that the January 28, 2026 motion to reconsider a previous vote on school closures is null and void and to correct public record accordingly.

In November 2025, a plan to permanently close nine school building and displace thousands of students was voted down 6-3 by the Board in a hard-fought victory led by organizers with 412 Justice. In January 2026, the Board attempted to bring a school closure vote back using secretive procedural tactics.
