Amicus Brief Filed in First Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals to Ensure Quality Education for Communities of Color

Advancement Project National Office and NAACP, along with pro bono law firm Arnold & Porter, have filed an amicus brief in the First Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals. In the brief, Advancement Project National Office, NAACP, and Arnold & Porter make the point that it is the connection between the right to vote and a quality education that impacts a person’s ability to fulfill their civic duty to participate in the democratic process, and without a quality education, individuals lack the ability to freely and fully operate in society.

While this legal action focuses on the denial of a quality education to historically disenfranchised communities of color in Rhode Island, the reality is that communities of color nationwide are being denied this right in both blatant and insidious ways, effectively working to trap them in their disenfranchisement making this both a racial justice issue and a Constitutional issue.
