We Are Less Than 100 Days From Election Day!
Can you believe it? We are already less than 100 days away from November 3.
In many ways, this year has expedited the need for and importance of the work we do at Advancement Project National Office. Preparing for this upcoming and incredibly important election will be no different. It’s officially time to ramp up our efforts to ensure a fair and just electoral process for communities of color!
Recently, Advancement Project National Office settled a lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, along with our partners, to expand voter access and Vote-By-Mail, as well as voter education amid the coronavirus pandemic. While the lawsuit showed what needs to be done to ensure every Floridian can vote in the August primary and November election, the settlement is a clear victory and step forward for Black and Brown voters.
To ensure other states can, too, be held accountable to secure fair and accessible electoral processes, we also recently launched a petition demanding Congress create the #NationalRightToVote for all people. With many states forcing Americans to choose between their health and their right to vote, we are calling to end the need to choose between the two.
Voting should be accessible and safe in spite of the current conditions. We are calling on Congress to make it happen. Sign the petition here.
Note: The U.S. Postal Service recently urged voters to request mail in ballots no later than two weeks prior to Election Day due to an increase in mail voting. This means Election Day is effectively shifting from November 3 to October 20. For voters in Connecticut, New York, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, mail in ballots are still not an option.
Taking into consideration the necessary precautions that come with curbing the spread of COVID-19, having the option to Vote-By-Mail is critical. Advancement Project National Office is continuing to do the work to dismantle voter disenfranchisement in communities of color across the country, and you can, too!
